Crisis Management and Business Continuity for Coronavirus COVID-19

On January 30, 2020, the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of the respiratory disease caused by a new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, a “public health emergency of international concern.”1

Those with COVID-19 have reported illnesses ranging from mild to severe with symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath, and some cases have been fatal. The disease initially indicated animal-to-person spread, later suggesting person-to-person spread after patients were diagnosed without exposure to animals. The virus has since spread globally with confirmed cases in several countries including the United Kingdom and United States.2

In the midst of the outbreak, businesses and companies alike are being tested on the effectiveness of their business continuity plans and crisis management response plans.
