Mr Mills, who is currently the FCA’s Director of Competition will replace Christopher Woolard, who the FCA recently announced as its Interim Chief Executive.
Prior to joining the FCA in September 2018, Mr Mills worked for the Competition and Markets Authority where he served as a Senior Director for Mergers and State Aid. Prior to this, Mr Mills qualified as a solicitor, practising competition and anti-trust law at a number of City Firms. Mr Mills is currently a trustee at Stonewall, the LGBT+ support and advocacy charity.
In the FCA’s press release announcing his appointment, Mr Mills said:
‘I am delighted to be stepping up to lead the FCA’s Strategy and Competition division. The FCA’s work makes a real difference to the everyday lives of people across the UK. I’m committed to continuing that crucial work in developing robust policy, promoting competition and encouraging innovation.’
On taking this role, Mr Mills will become a member of the FCA’s Executive Committee.
