
Frank Maier-Rigaud

He has more than 25 years of experience covering all areas of competition and regulatory economics, notably competitive effects of mergers, cartels, quantification of damage, abuse of dominance and state aid, as well as vertical and horizontal restraints and also commercial disputes including for example IP and securities litigation matters. He regularly serves as economic expert witness in front of national and international arbitration tribunals, the European courts and EU Member State courts and also worked as court appointed expert.
He joined Kroll together with his team as a result of the merger of his business ABC economics with Kroll. Prior to building ABC economics, he served as Head of European Competition Economics at NERA Economic Consulting, rebuilding and leading the firm’s European competition practice and overseeing more than 120 merger, antitrust, damages and state aid cases across multiple jurisdictions. Earlier in his career, Frank spent over eight years at the European Commission’s DG Competition as Senior Economist, where he reviewed hundreds of antitrust and merger decisions, coordinated major sector inquiries and participated in large‑scale investigations. He also served as Senior Economist at the OECD Competition Division in Paris, contributing to global competition and regulatory policy development.
Frank is also Full Professor of Economics at IÉSEG School of Management / Université Catholique de Lille, a member of LEM‑CNRS and serves on the advisory board of Wirtschaft und Wettbewerb, Europe’s oldest competition law journal. Frank holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Bonn obtained under Nobel Laureate Reinhard Selten, and an M.A. in political science (obtained under Nobel Laureate Lin Ostrom) and an M.A.in Economics, both from Indiana University Bloomington, as well as a B.A. (Vordiplom) from the University of Freiburg.
A native German and French speaker, he is also fluent in English.
