James has a range of claim and dispute resolution experience on a wide variety of building and engineering projects in the UK and the Middle East and on a variety of forms of contract.
Prior to joining Kroll, James was a Managing Consultant at Blackrock Experts Services, which was acquired by Kroll in 2020. Before that, he served as a Senior Manager at PwC Middle East in the construction claims and disputes department, which acquired HLP Consulting in 2016. At each firm James’ responsibilities included the provision of assistance to appointed quantum experts in international arbitrations, the provision of claims preparation services and contract/commercial management services in the Middle East region.
James has also held a position as Quantity Surveyor, working for Thomas Vale Construction (which was acquired by Bouygues UK) and ISG PLC, where his responsibilities at each firm included preparing and reviewing contracts, negotiating terms, overseeing payments and resolving disputes.
James specializes in the provision of quantum expert services and has appointed experts in the preparation of expert reports for arbitration, litigation and mediation proceedings. His experience considers a wide range of industry sectors including building, infrastructure, power, oil and gas and marine.
James is a member and committee member of the West Midlands Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
James holds an LLM in construction law and arbitration from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. He also holds a B.Sc. in quantity surveying from Birmingham City University.
