
Sara Ferland

Sara is a sales and indirect tax specialist with more than 20 years of experience advising on complex state and local tax matters in corporate and Big Four environments. She brings expertise in transaction tax research, audit defense, controversy management, and strategic tax planning.
Most recently, Sara served as Tax Counsel at Verizon Communications, where she played a key role in developing the company’s digital goods marketplace. She led the design and implementation of tax frameworks governing content sales, licensing, promotions and exemptions, while also drafting customer- and vendor-facing tax policies. A trusted adviser, she represented the company in numerous sales, use tax and gross receipts tax controversies nationwide.
Prior to this role, Sara was Tax Manager in Research & Planning at Verizon, where she provided strategic guidance on tax implications of the company’s major mergers and acquisitions, led initiatives that resulted in significant tax savings for the company’s network buildout and developed innovative tax planning strategies related to Verizon’s data centers and collocation facilities.
Earlier in her career, Sara spent over eight years at PricewaterhouseCoopers as Senior Tax Manager, where she advised clients across industries on transaction tax matters, supported M&A activity, prepared voluntary disclosure agreements, conducted reverse sales and use tax audits and represented clients in audit proceedings.
Sara holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Drew University. She is admitted to the Connecticut Bar.
