Sirsi Acquires Docutek Information Systems, Inc.
Docutek's solutions fit perfectly into Sirsi's future plans, providing libraries with a comprehensive suite of solutions.

HUNTSVILLE, AL AND BURLINGAME, CA - Sirsi Corporation and Docutek Information Systems Inc. today jointly announced that Sirsi has acquired Docutek , a leading library technology company whose focus on e-resource and e-learning solutions is in line with Sirsi's strategy to meet the comprehensive information management needs of 21st-century libraries. Now a wholly owned subsidiary of Sirsi, Docutek will continue to design, develop, sell, and support its industry-leading Docutek ERes, Docutek VRLplus, and Docutek atSchool products, which serve 550 customer sites and nearly 4 million end-users around the world. Docutek's offices, personnel, and day-to-day operations remain virtually unchanged. The new Docutek subsidiary will be an independent business unit that reports up to Sirsi's board of directors and chief executive officer (CEO).

"This is a next logical step for Docutek Information Systems," said Nathan Vince, Docutek's president and CEO. "Successful companies always progress to a point where change is essential if their growth is to be sustained ? Docutek has reached that point," said Vince. "Our joining the Sirsi family is a strategic move that will ensure the continued evolution of the e-resource and e-learning technologies Docutek has pioneered for a decade."

"I am excited by how much more Docutek will be able to accomplish with the resources and expanded reach that Sirsi provides, and I look forward to my own role in this new, stronger Docutek," said Dr. Philip Kesten, Docutek's vice president of marketing and co-founder.

Kesten will retain his role in the new Docutek subsidiary, as will Yonn Samuels, Docutek's director of engineering. Other development, support, and sales personnel within Docutek also remain unchanged. Nathan Vince, president and CEO of Docutek, and Slaven Zivkovic, Docutek's vice president of technology and co-founder, will pursue other interests.

"A major part of Sirsi's strategy for the future revolves around technologies that assist libraries in managing e-resources and supporting e-learning," said Patrick Sommers, Sirsi's CEO. "Docutek's solutions fit perfectly into Sirsi's future plans, as we focus on providing libraries with a comprehensive suite of solutions for meeting their information management and sharing needs."

Sommers continued, "As Sirsi and Docutek join forces to pursue our common interest in e-resources and e-learning, the library community and especially Docutek's current customers can be confident that Docutek, as a Sirsi company, will continue to enhance and expand its offerings to meet their needs." "By the same token," Sommers added, "Sirsi customers will benefit from Docutek's unmatched expertise and technologies in areas that strongly augment Sirsi's current offerings."
