Wayne Peterson is Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Kroll. Wayne is a globally recognized enterprise security risk executive, having bridged the government and private sectors in a distinguished career that included two decades with the U.S. Secret Service. As a veteran security professional, Wayne has led numerous international risk management, cybercrime investigations, remediation, and security initiatives in highly complex, dynamic environments.
Prior to joining the firm, Wayne was Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer at Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (FIS), the largest financial payments processor with over 40,000 employees worldwide. In this role, he initiated and led the build-out of a global cyber incident response team, to include the development of business processes and procedures. Wayne was also responsible for the creation of a cyber intelligence threat unit that proactively seeks threat information through government and industry contacts.
Wayne joined FIS from the U.S. Secret Service, where he progressively rose through the ranks over the course of 20 years to ultimately attain the position of Supervisory Special Agent, directing operations of the agency’s Cyber Intelligence Section of the Criminal Investigative Division. In this role, he managed the work of an internal team as well as several hundred field agents charged with conducting critical cybercrime investigations. His responsibilities also included regularly briefing the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security on cybercrime trends. Through collaborative and collegial outreach, he cultivated long-standing, productive partnerships with international law enforcement personnel and C-level executives. His efforts resulted in the elimination of $7 billion in potential loss to the U.S. financial sector through investigative activities.
Wayne received a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University and a CIO Graduate Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. He also received the Federal CIO Certification from the U.S. General Services Administration and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). In addition, he has won the U.S. Attorney General Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award and the Award for Excellence from the U.S. Executive Council on Integrity and Efficiency.
