Takashi Kawabata

Takashi has conducted complex background investigations, integrity due diligence and risk assessments across the financial services, energy, manufacturing, real estate, telecommunications, and technology sectors. His experience includes assessing conglomerates, family-owned business groups, business partners and key stakeholders across South Asia, Southeast Asia and Greater China.

Takashi has more than two decades of experience across government, financial services, media, consulting and technology sectors. Throughout his career, he has specialized in business intelligence, geopolitical and geoeconomic risk, and emerging Asia, combining extensive regional networks with a field-based research approach. His work has included human rights due diligence, ESG risk assessments, economic security reviews, IT governance and geopolitical and geoeconomic risk assessments supporting strategic decision-making and risk management for multinational organizations.

Prior to joining Kroll, Takashi held positions with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SMBC Nikko Securities, Uzabase/NewsPicks (business intelligence and media platform), EY Strategy and Consulting and Josys Cyber Geoeconomics Research (cyber-geoeconomics research unit under Josys Inc.). His areas of expertise include geoeconomics, economic security, policy intelligence, industrial policy and the analysis of large conglomerates across South Asia, Southeast Asia and Greater China.

Beyond his client work, Takashi is a frequent speaker on geoeconomics, policy and emerging Asia, and an evangelist for the Japan-Southeast Asia Innovation Platform (JSIP). He also serves as Task Force Observer with the Industry Strategy, Technology and Production Network Committee under the New Helsinki Process (2026–2027) of the Helsinki Geoeconomics Society in Finland.

Takashi holds a B.A. in language and area studies from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
