Prior to joining Kroll, Juan served as a quantum expert witness on numerous matters and has prepared quantum expert reports, provided oral expert testimony and been cross-examined, including by King’s Counsel, in litigation and arbitration proceedings conducted under the ICC, LCIA and DIAC Rules, as well as in ad hoc proceedings across the UAE, South Africa and Jordan.
Juan has also been appointed as an arbitrator and earlier in his career worked as a site-based quantity surveyor and commercial professional on major building, infrastructure, power generation and oil and gas projects. This practical project delivery experience informs his expert and advisory work. His experience spans major power projects, including coal, gas and nuclear facilities; oil and gas infrastructure, including LNG facilities, refineries and pipelines; offshore drilling platforms; renewable energy projects, including solar and offshore wind; desalination plants; hotels and resorts; hospitals; shopping centres; high-rise residential developments; and major civil engineering and motorway projects.
Juan has advised contractors, owners, legal counsel and arbitral tribunals on complex commercial and quantum issues arising from delay and prolongation, disruption, variations, termination, finance-related claims, loss of profit and final account disputes. He has also assisted leading quantum experts on more than 30 matters involving disputes.
Juan holds a LLM in construction law and arbitration and bachelor's degrees in construction economics and quantity surveying, both awarded cum laude. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, an Associate Member of the Academy of Experts and serves as Treasurer of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators' UAE Branch Committee and its Young Members Group. He is also registered on the International Chamber of Commerce's database of expert witnesses.
