Maria Evstropova (Director)
Maria is a director in the Duff and Phelps Regulatory Consulting practice with over 11 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry, including Acting MLRO positions. Maria focuses on AML and sanctions operational and regulatory consulting and regulatory due diligence assisting banks, asset managers, hedge funds, trust and corporate services administration companies with practical challenges they face in order to comply with their regulatory obligations.
John E. Smith (Co-Chair of Morrison & Foerster’s National Security Practice)
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster in July 2018, John served as the Director of the OFAC and as acting Under Secretary for the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at Treasury. As Director of OFAC, John oversaw all aspects of the U.S. government’s economic sanctions efforts, imposing sanctions on heads of state, countries, and illicit actors; supervising the investigation, preparation, and settlement of enforcement cases against dozens of major financial institutions and companies around the world; and developing innovative sanctions policies to address evolving U.S. national security and foreign policy priorities.
