Chicago – Kroll, the global leader in risk mitigation and response solutions, announced today that Michael Cabonargi has joined the firm as an associate managing director in the firm’s Investigations and Disputes practice. Cabonargi will be based in Chicago.

Since 2011, Cabonargi has served as Commissioner of the Cook County Board of Review, where he oversees the appeals of real estate tax assessments of homes and businesses in Chicago and Cook County. Cabonargi will continue in that office while working at Kroll. Prior to 2011, Cabonargi was a senior attorney and prosecutor with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Division of Enforcement. In his six years with the SEC, Cabonargi investigated and litigated cases involving financial fraud, insider trading and Ponzi schemes.
Before joining the SEC, Cabonargi was an attorney with Bell, Boyd and Lloyd, LLC from 2004 to 2005, and with Gardner Carton and Douglas LLP from 2002 to 2004. His practice at both firms focused on complex commercial and regulatory litigation. From 2000 to 2002, Cabonargi served as a law clerk to United States District Court Judge William J. Hibbler in Chicago. Cabonargi began his career as an aide to United States Senator Richard J. Durbin in 1997 and United States Senator Paul Simon from 1993 to 1997.
Cabonargi holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law and Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science and Foreign Affairs from Miami University.
