Kroll Names Julieanne Himelstein Associate Managing Director in Business Intelligence and Investigations Practice, New York

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Unites States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. investigated and tried significant terrorism cases, including Benghazi, Libya terrorist attacks

Kroll, a division of Duff & Phelps, a global leader in risk mitigation, investigations, compliance, cyber resilience, security and incident response solutions, today announced the appointment of Julieanne Himelstein as Associate Managing Director in its Business Intelligence and Investigations practice, based in New York. Since 1987, Himelstein was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Unites States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., where she investigated and tried some of the office’s most significant terrorism and national security cases of this past decade. She is  also among the most experienced sex crimes prosecutors in the United States and will be a tremendous asset to Kroll’s Title IX and Sexual Misconduct practice.

Himelstein has served as Deputy Chief in the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Section. Members of this section work closely with community stakeholders on issues related to domestic violence, sexual abuse and crimes against children. In this role, Himelstein supervised thousands of sex offense/sexual misconduct cases, investigating and prosecuting hundreds of these cases. She also pioneered interview and trial presentation techniques in Washington, D.C.

Over her career, Himelstein was the lead prosecutor in more than 100 jury trials involving international terrorism, fraud, violent crime, sex trafficking, child exploitation, sex offenses, public corruption and obstruction of justice cases. In conjunction with many of these cases, Himelstein conducted numerous complex grand jury investigations leading to multiple indictments and guilty pleas. Notably, Himelstein played a leading role in several high-profile cases brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. These include U.S. v. Abu Khatallah, where she was the co-lead prosecutor in a case arising from the terrorist attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and U.S. v. Andrew Warren, where she was the lead prosecutor in the sexual assault case against a high-level U.S. intelligence official stationed in Algeria.

Himelstein earned a J.D. from Antioch School of Law and a B.A. in Speech and Communications at Emerson College. She is admitted to the legal practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. In recognition of her outstanding contributions and accomplishments, Himelstein has received awards from several federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Executive Office for the United States Attorneys Director’s Award; FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III Award (presented four times); and U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Award.
