Greg Franceschi, Managing Director and Global Leader of the Financial Reporting Practice and Office of Professional Practice shared insights from the Duff & Phelps Goodwill Impairment Study, which tracked 8,800 U.S. publicly traded firms, with The Wall Street Journal.
Referring to findings from the study, Greg said that “companies’ expectations for transactions have not been reflected in the actual results, so there’s been a write-down in these prices.” He added that the impairments are highly correlated with macroeconomic factors in a company’s particular industry, although litigation or product failures can also lead to impairments.
