Duff & Phelps’ Stadium Naming Rights Study Featured in BBC

Duff & Phelps is featured in an article by BBC regarding the ongoing search for a sponsor to West Ham Football Club’s Stadium in London.

The Stadium, originally built for the London Olympics in 2012, is now home to West Ham United. Although the club pays £2.5m per year as tenants, the stadium is set to lose £140m over the next 10 years.

The article states that any sponsorship cost would help offset the losses and refers to Duff & Phelps report on Stadium Naming Rights which suggests that naming rights for the venue could potentially bring in £4.8m annually.

When the report was released earlier in the year, Trevor Birch, managing Director and Head of UK Sports at Duff & Phelps said, “Although the UK hasn’t embraced Stadium naming rights as enthusiastically as the United States, its potential to become an important revenue stream is highlighted by these figures.” Michael Weaver, Managing Director at Duff & Phelps and Head of EMEA Valuation advisory added that, “Over the past four years, the potential value of stadium rights has nearly doubled.”
