He co-leads the German Energy and Infrastructure team as well as the German Distressed M&A team. Jan-Hendrik is also part of Kroll’s German Financial Advisory Leadership team. He leverages over 25 years of experience in corporate finance and M&A advisory in assisting multinational corporations and mid-sized businesses with mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings and strategic advisory services. His primary focus is on the energy and infrastructure sectors and distressed M&A.
Before joining Kroll, Jan-Hendrik served as Managing Director at goetzpartners (now renamed Fortlane Partners), a leading European M&A advisory firm headquartered in Munich.In this role, he focused on M&A advisory, particularly in the energy, infrastructure and distressed transactions space. Previously, Jan-Hendrik led the equity funds group within the Project and Asset Based Financing Department at Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG (now UniCredit), following several years in energy and infrastructure project finance at the same bank. He began his career at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.
Jan-Hendrik advised on M&A transactions (i.a. the sale of Endor to Corsair, the sale of Basic to tegut/Migros, the acquisition of Techem by CDPQ, OTPP and Partners Group and many more), asset-based private equity funds (i.a. Sentient Global Resources Fund, TCW X Fund, Charterhouse Project Equity Fund (later renamed HSBC Infrastructure Fund)), and project financings (i.a. Azito Power (Ivory Coast), Target Mine of Avgold (South Africa), El Tesoro copper project of Antofagasta plc (Chile) and Gastransit (Ukraine)). He successfully guided clients through complex M&A transactions, project financings, equity fund investments and strategic initiatives, delivering impactful results.
Jan-Hendrik studied law in Bonn, Geneva, Strasbourg, Munich, Speyer and at the London School of Economics, and is qualified both as German attorney and English barrister. Together with John L. Simpson, he co-authored the EBRD’s Model Law on Secured Transactions (London, 1994). His publications include Comparative Principles of Proprietary Security (Munich, 1999), the co-edited Legal Handbook Project Finance and Public Private Partnerships (Cologne/Munich, 2008, with Ulf R. Siebel and Christian Knütel), Secured Lending in Eastern Europe (Oxford, 2007) and most recently, Investment Banking. M&A and Financing Structures (2nd edition, Munich 2024 of a work previously written by Bernd Fahrholz).
Jan-Hendrik is the President of the Curators of the Bavarian State Library, one of Europe's most important universal libraries founded in 1558. He also is the treasurer of the German Friends of the Busch Reisinger Museum at Harvard University. He enjoys cinema, classical music, reading and sharing experiences with family and friends.
