Increasing focus on Beneficial Ownership: How to evolve your compliance program

Recent regulatory mandates emphasize the need for organizations to know with whom they are doing business, including the identification of opaque ownership and control structures. We reviewed various regulations as well as changes to certain ownership registers and how this impacts legal and compliance professionals across financial institutions, corporations, and charities. We also propose immediate and long-term best practices that organizations can implement to boost confidence in their ability to meet the requirements associated with ultimate beneficial ownership identification.

Jeff Dexter is a Senior Director with Kroll’s Compliance Risk and Diligence practice in Reston, Virginia. Jeff specializes in advising corporate clients on third party risk management as it relates to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Bribery Act and similar local laws worldwide. He was awarded for excellence in client service by Consulting Magazine’s 35 under 35 in 2017. As a strategic initiative owner, he expanded the Kroll Compliance Risk and Diligence product offerings and developed a program to create more value for customers. Tom Hollobone is a Senior Director in Kroll Compliance Risk and Diligence  practice, based in the London office. In this role, Tom has participated in a variety of cases involving implementation of vendor screening programs, working to assist large multinational companies in setting up and maintaining robust anti-bribery procedures. He also has extensive experience in conducting compliance-driven due diligence, including pre-transactional due diligence, competitive intelligence, and hedge fund manager screening. Tom oversees all client requests for senior level pre-employment screening across EMEA and has over 10 years’ experience in managing this type of work in strict compliance with EU data protection and privacy legislation. | [email protected]
