Daniel Linskey Discusses Online Job Scams with Fortune
Daniel Linskey, Managing Director in the Security Risk Management practice at Kroll, a division of Duff & Phelps, was featured in a Fortune article covering the increasing number of online job scams.
“We have Fortune 500 clients who have called us in to figure out why so many people have come to them claiming that someone at the company hired them,” says Daniel.
According to the FBI, job scams have been on the rise since early 20191. These scams have become more sophisticated and therefore hard to distinguish from real job postings, thus trapping more victims. Daniel suggests paying attention to possible read flags and to take these precautions when applying for a job:
- Never send money or provide credit card information to an employer
- Beware of non-company email addresses and insecure websites
- Research the prospective employer online
- If in doubt, call the company directly
To prevent the possible loss of both your money and identity to scammers, Daniel emphasizes that those on the job hunt should “take these steps before you quit the job you have now.”
