Employment Physicals

Pre-employment physicals are becoming an increasingly important component of the hiring process for many businesses, providing employers with several benefits including preventing absenteeism (due to injury or illness) and reducing costs associated with Workers’ Compensation, rehiring, and retraining employees. Pre-employment physicals also help employers determine proper placement of employees and reasonable accommodation of qualified applicants.

Kroll offers employment physical exams to help employers:

  • Manage future risks and set a foundation for prevention procedures by identifying employees with conditions that predispose them to injury
  • Help to determine proper placement of employees and reasonable accommodation of qualified applicants
  • Reduce costs associated with Workers’ Compensation, rehiring, and retraining employees
  • Limit future liability for work-related injuries and illness
  • Prevent absenteeism due to injury or illness
  • Establish employees' baseline health status and promote workplace safety

What We Do

Requiring potential new hires to submit to pre-employment physicals establishes employees’ medical condition at their date of hire, creating a medical and legal information base. An employee’s inability to properly perform his or her job functions increases the risk of injury not only to the individual, but also poses a risk to fellow employees and the general public. Pre-employment physicals promote workplace safety benefiting the company, the employees tested, co-workers, and the public.

By identifying employees with conditions that predispose them to injury, pre-employment physicals help employers manage future risks and set a foundation for prevention procedures. Physical exam recommendations enable employers to limit future liability by making reasonable accommodation, relocating the employee to a more suitable position (if available), or reconsidering their offer of employment.

Kroll’s employment physical exams assess medical conditions that may affect employees’ ability to safely perform their job requirements and help determine if employees can perform the essential functions of the job with or without job modifications. If the job will place the employee and/or others at risk of injury and reasonable accommodation cannot be made, the employer may refuse to hire the individual for the particular job. If a qualified applicant is able to perform the essential functions of another available position (with or without reasonable accommodation), the employer may offer the more suitable position.

What You Get

Conducting pre-employment physicals is a simple process. You send Kroll a clear and complete job description for each pre-employment (post-offer) physical you require. Our experts then customize a job analysis to assist the physician with the physical exam — requirements may include “employee must be able to lift 35 pounds.” All medical recommendations are made in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Kroll can also consult on OSHA, CALOSHA, and other related safety programs.

Kroll’s nationwide network of clinics means that you always have a location nearby. We match your locations by ZIP code with the closest clinic locations available, and your potential new hires will complete their exams at the clinic of your choice. Applicants simply go to the clinic, show identification, and state your company name. Kroll will notify you immediately when exam results are completed, generally within two to three days.

Pre-employment physical examination reports, including any restrictions such as “no lifting over 35 pounds,” are provided through our easy-to-use, Web-based solution. Simply log in to your account to view your completed reports, which may be printed or saved in PDF format on your system. After completed reports have been viewed, Kroll automatically stores them in your secure archive. Access, view, and print reports at any time in the future by browsing archived reports or using our search feature.

By aggregating the volume of all of our clients, Kroll is able to negotiate very competitive rates for these employment physical exams.
