Erik Rasmussen is the Cyber Practice Leader for Kroll’s Cyber Security and Investigations practice and Head of the Los Angeles office. As a former Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service, Erik brings an exceptional combination of legal, federal law enforcement, and corporate experience to the current challenges faced by clients.
Prior to joining Kroll, Erik was Director, Cyber Intelligence and Investigations, Payment System Risk, for Visa Inc., where his responsibilities included developing the threat intelligence platform for cyber intelligence and investigations needs. His duties also entailed frequent collaboration with internal teams to collect, analyze, and share cyber security threats with merchants, payment processors, credit card issuer banks, and acquirer banks within the Visa payment system. Prior to Visa, Erik was IT Security Manager, Security and Investigations for Fidelity National Information Services, a leading international provider of technology-enabled solutions for the payments and banking industries.
From 2004–2013, Erik was a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service, where he focused primarily on domestic and international computer crimes investigations. He investigated criminal violations related to access device fraud, bulletproof hosting services, child pornography, distributed denial of service attacks, botnet attacks, and wire fraud, and conducted the international investigation that resulted in United States v. Sergey Vovnenko (aka “Flycracker”).
Earlier in his career, Erik served on the Los Angeles FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he investigated the activities of domestic and international terrorist organizations. He began his career in 2003 as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Tacoma, Washington.
Erik is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, Science & Technology Law Section. Additionally, he has presented at numerous internationally recognized conferences such as RSA, IACP, and ASIS International.
