If your business has any connection to the European Union, even if you are just collecting or processing the data of EU residents, then the GDPR applies to you and it cannot be ignored. Is your organization prepared?
Co-hosted with Pinsent Masons at this invitation-only roundtable, we will be looking at the provisions of the GDPR, how it impacts on businesses in Asia, and the steps that you should be taking to achieve compliance. We will also share our best practices and ask whether this is just the beginning of a stricter global regime for data protection.
The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2018. It regulates the collection, processing and security of personal data and applies to you if you are based in the EU, if your data processor is based in the EU, and critically if you are collecting or processing the personal data of those residing in the EU. It introduces new, stricter rules in respect of the collection and processing of data. It also imposes new penalties for non-compliance, including a maximum fine of up to EUR20,000,000 (over HKD180m) or 4% of global turnover, whichever is greater.
