Kroll was founded in 1972 and established a reputation as Wall Street's private eye during the hostile takeover era of the 1980s. In the 1990's, the company gained worldwide renown for its success in searching for assets hidden by Jean-Claude Duvalier, Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos, and Saddam Hussein. More recently, Kroll recovered lost data from a battered hard drive that crashed to earth aboard the space shuttle Columbia.

Corporate responsibility and public service have played a key role in our business. Our original mission was to advise clients on how to make more effective and honest purchasing decisions. Over the years, our business has grown significantly, but integrity, accountability and leadership remain among our core values.

Today, Kroll is a world leader in investigations, technology, and security. We are headquartered in New York with offices in more than 65 cities in over 33 countries.

Our diverse roster of more than 3,800 global employees includes some of the most experienced and forward-thinking experts in:

  • litigation,
  • technology,
  • finance and forensic accounting,
  • compliance and integrity
  • business intelligence,
  • investigation,
  • background screening, and
  • security consulting.

Kroll is a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC), the global professional services firm and Fortune 500 company.
